I’m Fasting :)

26 Oct

I am so excited to be a part of Goodbye Valentino‘s Ready-To-Wear Fasters! You can see my profile, and all of the other ladies who are participating here!

The goal is to not buy ready to wear {RTW} for a whole year for myself. The rules are pretty simple:

  • Refashions count
  • Gifts don’t count
  • Undergarments are an exception

I am also going to be sewing for my children’s clothing as well, but I do tend to be gifted and handed down a lot for them, so I will really just be making some special occasion things.

One of the biggest challenges will be the pants for me. I think it will take a little while, but I’m confident I can learn to sew a pant that fits me well! I have already taken a class on sewing knits, and that’s where the focus will be for my tops, because that’s normally what I wear. I already feel a lot more comfortable sewing with knits, and I am really excited to continue making comfortable stay-at-home-mom worthy tops.

My fast starts this month, but I won’t be focusing on making any clothing for me until I get through my Christmas gifts lined up, and since I just whipped up a lobster costume last night as the 3rd costume for one finicky little boy, November is looking like a busy month for finishing those projects up!

Wish me luck!

      Well, you are way ahead of the game getting your couture dress finished BEFORE the challenge, haha!

    I am not including my children in my RTW Fast. That would be far too much for me at this point. Maybe one day…
    Pants are also going to be a hard thing for me. I might just have to wear more skirts. I am still going to make a great pair of jeans, though. Even if it kills me! So glad we can all do this together.

      I’m so lucky to always receive hand me downs for my children, or I would be buying for them, too! They grow so fast! I would love to make some jeans as well, but I’m going to attempt some cords first, I think {I already have a bolt of corduroy fabric that was given to me, so I might as well!}

        I have heart that cord is one of the hardest things to sew with because there is absolutely no give for easing. Pants may not be so bad with that, but jackets would be difficult.

    Good luck!! Sounds like fun! So, when you say refashions count, does that mean you can use them??
    Also, I just received this in an email yesterday. It’s a class you have to pay for on Craftsy.com but it’s about pants construction. Thought I’d pass it along in case you are interested.

      Hmm, looking back I really did an awful job wording these guidelines. Oops! Yes, refashions are acceptable, and also undergarments, and shoes for that matter:) I loved my sewing knits craftsy class, so I will for sure check this one out, thanks!
